-The early season ritual has begun. –
–
-Getting out, tracking the snowpack and making some turns are part of the everyday equation. Although, fitness is the primary goal. –
–
-While I stay fit throughout the year I find it important to “ease” into each season. As a runner I carry very little with me during the running season. Today as I shouldered my pack I joked, “I gained 20 pounds in the last two days”. –
–
-Between the pack weight, travel conditions, elevation and cold temps I was reminded in order to avoid injury I need to get fit for a new sport. A total change of “mindset”. –
–
-“Assessment” is my current mindset. Assessing terrain, snowpack, equipment and fitness. –
–
-The season is long and the conditions generally don’t get “all time” until late February early March in the Tetons and often last until late May. The season is a complete marathon. Therefore for a slow and methodical approach is mandatory for longevity. –
–
-Until then I travel around potential objectives, and watch conditions. And if favorable conditions arise I’m ready.-
–
-What’s your formula for longevity?-
