Information and Communication are two very Different Things!

Feb 11, 2019

Do you have the right type of communications?

-The two words ‘information’ and ‘communication’ are often used interchangeably, but they signify quite different things. Information is giving out; communication is getting through. –

-Sydney J. Harris-

-Our methods of communication have changed significantly in recent times. The backcountry is no exception. Clear communication with critical information in a timely manner can be the difference between life and death. –

-A layered approach is arguably the best insurance policy when someone is injured, lost or in need in the backcountry. My approach consists of the following:

-A BCA Link Radio for inter and Intra group Comms. –
-Cell phone turned off to save power and a charger for when service is available. –
-A Delorme InReach for satellite communications when cell service is not available. –

-What’s your emergency communications plan?-
